Serginho started at the age of 17 in Unidos da Ponte where he participated in rodas de pagodes and disputes samba. He supported the then puxador Grillo, and starred as the main singer two years later.

He has emerged as a great puxador and composer of sambas. Has composed for Ponte, Unidos da Tijuca, Beija Flor, Difícil é o Nome, Mocidade Alegre and Águia de Ouro. In 1999, he won the Gold Award for composing Beja Flor's Araxá: Lugar Alto Onde Primeiro Se Avista o Sol.

He has been the principal puxador for Ponte, Unidos da Tijuca, San Clemente,União da Ilha, Império da Tijuca and Estácio. In Sao Paulo, he has been the puxador of Águia de Ouro since 2002 accompanying Douglinhas. For five year he has been back in Rio's Special Group as the puxador of Caprichosos. In 2006, returned as puxador of the Águia de Ouro, where he remains. In 2008, he returned to Estacio de Sa, and supported Quinho no Salgueiro in 2007 and 2010.

He was part of the group Puxadores do Samba with Preto Jóia, Wantuir, Jackson Martins and Dominguinhos do Estácio.
