Venice to Rio to Paradise

Our theme celebrates the journey of European carnival from Venice to Rio de Janeiro and back to Paraiso's parade in London.

We look back to the heyday of European Carnival of the 15th and 16th centuries - a period of European exploration and colonization, and the time of the exportation of European Carnival.

The carnival traditions introduced to the Americas and the Caribbean have been transformed over time, but many of the elements still exist and these form the inspiration for Paraíso?s 2004 parade. Drawing on the carnivals of Venice, our parade celebrates these origins and the city.

Comissão de Frente

The opening element of the parade is highly choreographed and our dancing couples perform the courtly dances of Venetian Balls, the women coquettish behind their masks and the gentlemen dressed as princes and dignitaries of foreign lands and the ever expanding exotic world.
