The Paraiso
schools project reached a fantastic high as 120 kids danced and
played in stunning costumes and glorious sun as part of the Finchley
Festival.
The project had taken place in 3 Barnet schools
with Henrique & Dave helping the children to create a
true samba carnival parade, ably supported by the Paraiso team.
The
children had been working for 2 months on special choreography
and samba percussion, and the final week was spent creating colourful
and inventive collars, headdresses and wrist-pieces. The children
were wonderfully enthusiastic - even when faced with the task of
making Brazilian flags immediately after England's defeat in the
World Cup! The teachers were enthusiastically supportive and lots
of parents showed up on the day to cheer their children on.
The kids bateria was really hot (led by Dave, Marcos, Giselle
and Sam) and the 3 dance alas shook up the street with their samba-no-pe
(led by Henrique, Mariana, Tomiho, Jo and Yolande). Thanks also
go to to the rest of the large Paraiso team who were out on the
street including Joe, David J and Lisa.
Lindsey, the festival co-ordinator was heard to shout "this
is the best kids project I've ever been involved with!". With
this kind of enthusiasm, skill and carnival spirit, Paraiso has
a great future! |
